Indiana NAWGJ Board Minutes
June 1, 2016
Present: Tom Swayzee, Pat Ergle, Judy Kemp, Michelle Ealy, and Ruth Hanna
The board meeting began at 9:30 a.m. at DeVeau’s Gymnastics. The first item of business was to review the binder and all relevant documents. Ruth Hanna put the binder together according to the procedures set forth by the National NAWGJ Board. The 2015-2016 documents will be sent by Ruth to Robin Smith in Missouri by July 1, 2016. The binder will be easier to keep in the future, because of the document list provided by the national board.
After reviewing the documents in the binder, we decided to make sure that the members will be able to see the money made at Judges Cup, as well as all the associated expenses. We will have copies of the compensation package on a table at Judges Cup for members to see and take. We have a lot of Judges Cup money earmarked for clinic expenses. Tom Swayzee said we should promote our Judges Cup more to our members by letting them know how successful it is and how much money is given back to judges for clinics, NAWGJ memberships, uniforms, etc.
The next item discussed was the Indiana NAWGJ website that Tom Swayzee maintains. The website has good links and is easy to follow. Tom suggested we use our Indiana NAWGJ Facebook page more and also Twitter. Tom will have the judges’ availability online by July 1, 2016.
Judy asked the board members how they felt about assigning for the entire judging season. We decided to try it for this year. We will need to inform the clubs by e-mail that their judges request forms must be in by August 1, 2016. Judy, Ruth, and Pat will meet on August 20, 2016 to assign for the year. This is a tentative date. It was decided that we will let judges know first which meets they are assigned to judge, and then Pat and Ruth will send contracts out later. It was suggested that we talk to the state board about state meet assignments. Most judges feel they need to know state meet assignments earlier. It was also suggested that state meet criteria be posted for all judges.
The Indiana State Congress will be on July 23-24, 2016 at the Wellington in Fishers, Indiana. It will start at noon with the calendar meet. There will be 2 sessions after the meeting with the banquet that night. On Sunday there will be more sessions for coaches and judges. Sessions will involve lots of practice judging. We may try to have a raffle for practice videos. We will also offer a session for new judges wanting to test.
The Indiana NAWGJ Board discussed how to better mentor new judges, as well as recruit new judges. We want to make sure that all new judges are able to judge with experienced judges. Judy will look into the possibility of offering testing at the State Congress.
Meeting was adjourned at 12:03 p.m.
